This article includes information on about how the population surpassed 35 million people within the past year. According to the article, Canada's population was estimated to be 35,158,300 and increased 404, 000 over the last year. CBC News interviewed Frank Trovato, professor of demography and population studies of University of Alberta in Edmonton, and he said, "The trend is showing that we are growing but not by too much or too little". The population change is positive in Canada but it is showing little to no growth, ranging from 0.8% -1.2% growth in the population. Population growth all result from various factors such as crucial birth/ death rates, fertility rates, and net in/ out migration percentages. The average fertility rate to keep a stable population is 2.1. Canada is starting to fall just below it to about 1.5 - 1.7. This would mean that we are having less children to replace our population which could result in our population to slowly decrease. As stated in the article, "Even a small change" in the fertility rate can have a significant impact on population growth. Another key point made in this article is that more people are attracted to certain parts of Canada. For example, the providence of Alberta is one of the major parts of Canada that people want to migrate to. This is because they have many pull factors that other places don't. Some of these pull factors include many job opportunities, it includes a high standard of living, it is very diverse, and it is a welcoming community. Based on what we learned about population and migration to new countries, these pull factors affect where people want to live. Even if we are having a low fertility rate, if the amount of immigrants coming into a country is high, then that could result in the increase of population. All of what has been presented in the article has a factor on where somebody would want to live. People are not going to want to live in a less developed county that doesn't include many job opportunities, discrimination by the government, or violence. They are going to want to live in an area where they can benefit and have a successful life.
